Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctor visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations and deaths.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Who should get vaccinated<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The \u00a0annual flu vaccine is recommended for everyone age 6 months or older. Vaccination is especially important for people at high risk of influenza complications, including.<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Young children<\/li>\n<li>are 65 years of age\u00a0or over<\/li>\n<li>are pregnant<\/li>\n<li>are living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility<\/li>\n<li>receive a\u00a0carer&#8217;s allowance, or you are\u00a0the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill<\/li>\n<li>have certain medical conditions<\/li>\n<li>\n<ol>\n<li>Asthma<\/li>\n<li>Cancer or cancer treatment<\/li>\n<li>Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)<\/li>\n<li>Cystic fibrosis<\/li>\n<li>Diabetes<\/li>\n<li>HIV\/AIDS<\/li>\n<li>Kidney or liver disease<\/li>\n<li>Obesity<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Front-line health and social care workers are also eligible to receive the flu vaccine.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Children between 6 months and 8 years may need two doses of the flu vaccine, given at least four weeks apart, to be fully protected. Check with your child&#8217;s health care provider.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Are there Side Effects?<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">There are different side effects that may be associated with getting the vaccine. Possible mild side effects include:<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Soreness, redness, and swelling at the injection site<\/li>\n<li>Fainting, mainly in adolescents<\/li>\n<li>Aches<\/li>\n<li>Fever (low grade)<\/li>\n<li>Nausea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Serious side effects usually begin within a few minutes to a few hours after receiving the shot.
